Crazy Month

There are busy months… and then there are crazy months. February felt pretty crazy, at least for us. We had three conferences and also five meetings. We started the month out in Pensacola, and it was a blessing being at Scenic Bay Baptist and also seeing Kiera and Jeremiah! Then we had a conference at Volusia County Baptist. It was such a blessing and I really appreciate the birthday party they held for all the missionary kids. Then we had a meeting at West Orlando Baptist, and wow were those folks so kind to us – it was a privilege to be part of their mission’s month. Then at Tabernacle Baptist in Orlando we were blessed to attend the International Fellowship of Fundamental Baptists and five of the speakers asked us to come to their church and present – that fills up most of July!

At Faith Baptist in Homosassa we really enjoyed the fellowship with the people and the McCleans, and the soup competition was a lot of fun! Trinity Baptist church was very kind to us and it was neat hearing the pastor and his wife talk about their time serving as missionaries in Germany. Then in Okeechobee at Victory Baptist we had an amazing one day missions day with with a keynote speaker and one other missionary family. It felt like a missions conference all packed into one day! Our kids are great friends with the Phillip’s kids and they stayed up late night after night having fun. After that we headed to Palm Harbor and ended the month with a mission’s conference at Bible Baptist Church, and wow were they kind to the missionary kids and wives, and even the dads got spoiled. The theme was “Missions: Possible” (que the music), and it was actually a great reminder of how obtainable it is to get the gospel to the world if we all do our part. No, not everyone will trust Christ, but can we get the Gospel to them? Yes, if we all do our part. I always want to say more about these meetings, but there’s never the space to do so; they’re all such a blessing and it’s truly a privilege to visit.

Saving Money

In January I mentioned in the prayer letter that we had saved money up for plane tickets to PNG, and that we were currently saving for a vehicle in PNG. You know what happened in February? God gave us the money for a vehicle. We are thankful to the Lord for His provision and for God’s people and their kindness. We try to live as frugally as possible so that we are able to save, and by God’s grace we have been able and continue to do so.

Ministry Partners

Time to pull back the curtain a little and show you a little bit, for fun, some of the things that happen on deputation. It’s common for big families that travel and sing to have people tag along and travel with them on a short term basis. Call them ministry partners, if you will. Well, we have had our own ministry partners: bugs. Don’t be shocked, we live in a house on wheels and even your house gets a bug inside it every now and then. It’s been a year and a half, and we’ve had a number of ministry partners: first it was the brown marmorated stink bug from Ohio. Those guys travelled with us for months, one here and another there – always hanging around never completely gone. Then about the time we got rid of them there were these massive ants, I think from Michigan. They didn’t last long. You know what was stubborn though? German cockroaches from Texas. Small, sneaky, random. 22 degree freezing temperature in Pensacola finished them off, praise the Lord for that! None of these have been horrible infestations, just random yet frustratingly faithful ministry partners. Not the kind of faithfulness I want, but I’m sure there’s a great illustration there.

Thank you all for your kindness and prayers,

Rick Schworer
