Back in Phoenix and Seeing Old Friends
When I was thirteen years old my family moved to Phoenix, Arizona – that was awhile ago. It was great that the Lord opened the door, with four meetings, for us to go to back on the way to our daughter’s wedding in Idaho. While in Arizona we were able to see our snowbird friends, the Burtons, and the kids enjoyed what they would call “low key grandparent vibes” as the Burtons helped the kids make orange juice from the oranges picked right outside the front door.
In Yuma we got to see the Bollinger family at Maranatha Baptist Church. So much history! The former pastor of that church was my 5th grade Sunday School teacher, I worked with Daniel Bollinger in an insurance office for many years, and both he and his wife were Bible Institute students of mine. It’s great how the Lord works these things out.
Missionary Trails in the Golden State
God opened the door to five meetings in California before heading north. We started out in Morgan Hill and we were very blessed to be able to see the Marshall family as we visited Shadow Mountain Baptist Church. The church was a blessing to be with and it was especially great to spend time with Pastor Matt again, as he is one of those people that have popped up in my life over and over again – including in Papua New Guinea when I was 19!
Fellowship is Better than Scenery
As churches have welcomed us in, they have also encouraged us to see their local sites and in our travels we have been able to see a lot of scenery, from Niagara Falls to the Grand Canyon to the Golden Gate Bridge to Everglades. It’s been great, and I never thought I’d get the chance to see such great sights. That being said, the joy of fellowship and the camaraderie of fellow believers to me is a lot better. Don’t take for granted your spiritual family at church, and don’t allow the cares of this world to take you out of church – you’re a lot more impactful than you probably realize.
Love is in the Air
If you notice, on our prayer card, there are five kids. But when we went to your church we only had four with us! That’s because at the time we made the card there was a chance the oldest one was going on deputation with us. Well, God had other plans and now this amazing daughter of mine is about to get married, and we all couldn’t be happier. Her soon to be husband, Jeremiah, is a hard working young man with a lot of character, and we are so excited to see where their lives take them. God’s timing is so good, it’s truly a testament to His love, care, and faithfulness to us all.
Thank you,
Rick Schworer
