From Mount Hagen to New Port Richey: A Testament Fulfilled
A long time ago, at my old church in Mount Hagen, my dad was preaching and I was translating. After the message a man came and introduced himself to me as Dave Holland, and asked if I would be willing to help him in his work of translating the Old Testament into KJV Pigin. At the timem the only Pigin Old Testament for the PNG people was a corrupt version. I agreed to help and wound up translating the book of Daniel. Fast forward twenty-five years and I am at Bible Baptist Church in New Port Richie setting up our missions display with the completed work of an Old and New Testament KJV, Dave Holland and Brian Girard’s vision, on our table. Pastor Stidham then asked me if I knew Dave Holland, because this was his sending church before he retired. I had no idea when I called to setup the meeting, and so it was a wonderful surprise to be able to tell the church the story that Sunday. What a special blessing that was, praise God!
A Providential Breakdown
At a missions conference in Port Charlotte one of the missionaries we met recommended we reach out to his pastor and see about a meeting. I had a free Wednesday, and the pastor graciously invited us to come and present. So instead of taking a six hour drive to Miami, we drove one hour to Bushnell. Three minutes from the church in Bushnell the RV started making that weird noise a car makes when you are running low on power steering fluid, but it was making it both when I pressed the brake or turned the wheel. We got to the church, got setup, and when I looked under the engine I saw power steering fluid gushing out of the line whenever I had Silas turn the wheel for me. The brake system is tied into the power steering system which explained all of it. Long story short, we are so thankful for God’s timing! The replacement line is very tricky to find a replacement for but the mechanic we went to just so happened to have a bus with the exact same line – and he just so happened to have bought the bus from the church we were staying at! Much better for this to happen 3 minutes from a church instead of 5 hours, and that the part was so readily available! God’s providential hand!
The Seminoles Love Missions!
God opened the door for us to go to the mission field of the Seminole tribe in Hollywood, Florida, and present our burden for Papua New Guinea. Turns out the people of Chickee Baptist Church really love missions! My heart swelled listening to one of the ladies talk about how a missionary lady led her to the Lord when she was just a little girl, and how she is so thankful for missions.
Miami, Oklahoma City, and Phoenix, Oh My!
There’s just too much to fit into this prayer letter! God has been so good to us, we have gone to so many churches on the way to Kiera’s wedding in May! We are abundantly blessed to see wonderful friends along the way, and see places and churches that we’ve always wanted to visit. We set out to be a blessing during deputation, but over and over again we are the people who feel overly blessed. Thank you all for your love to this missionary family.
